Simba duvet review: Hybrid 3-in-1 best all seasons duvet?

How many duvets does one household need? A question I recently found myself asking when moving countries back to the UK. We found that we have summer duvets aplenty and a couple of heavy ones, but mid-season involved stacking various layers of blankets and duvets – a complete pain. So, when I had the chance to do a Simba duvet review, I was delighted to give their hybrid 3-in-1 design a try.

Key features of Simba’s super duvet

Being completely honest, this is not the cheapest quilt out there, starting at £249 for a single, it’s a higher-than-average price. So, what makes this all season quilt bang for its buck?

One duvet for all seasons

One duvet for everything makes so much sense. Their 3-in-1 duvet does what it says on the can: three duvets for one:

  • A 3.5 tog duvet for summer,
  • A 7 tog duvet for spring and autumn, which together make up
  • A lovely fluffy 10.5 togger for winter.

The duvet even comes in a handy recycled textile carry case that you can use to store the other part of the duvet when you’re only using one of the two.

So, if you were to buy all three duvets separately, you might not be far off their premium price-point.

Stratos® cooling technology

Another reason for the higher price point, and one of the key features of this duvet, is its ingenious use of Stratos® cool tech, originally designed for astronauts. One side of each snap-together duvet uses Stratos® tech, intertwined with cotton to create a temperature-regulating cover. This draws excess heat away from the body and stops you overheating at night.

The other side is a silky soft cotton and sustainable Modal blend, so you can choose whether to use the cooling or non-cooling side. Their Stratos® side has a criss-cross pattern meaning you can easily tell them apart.

When I first received the duvet, I wasn’t sure about the texture of the Stratos® side. It feels noticeably cool to the touch but has a kind of crunchy texture that I wasn’t so keen on. However, the moment you put the duvet cover on, this translates into a snug crunchiness that oozes high quality lux. I really love how it feels now, and so does my other half.

The duvet is also incredibly warm, so my body temperature feels just right sleeping under it. This tech, and the modular design, mean this comforter accommodates hot sleepers, cold sleepers, and year-round use. Perfect for everyone.

Menopause Friendly

Simba have also labelled their hybrid duvet as menopause friendly. Night sweats are a classic menopause and perimenopause symptom that affect up to 80% of women going through menopause. The Stratos® technology works to combat this.

There are 15.5 million women in the UK and 1 billion women globally affected by the stages of menopause at any one time. It’s great that Simba is catering for an inevitable but little-talked-about stage of life for all women.

Sustainability

A big thing that I look for when choosing which company to buy from is its sustainability credentials. I also want to make sure that my bedding is non-toxic. So how does Simba measure up?

First off, Simba has done great things on the sustainability and ethical front and has won several awards for sustainability, such as Eco Brand of the Year by Real Homes in 2022. It is a registered B Corp, and as I mentioned in my review of its hybrid pillow, it has a high B Corp score compared to other certified B Corps. It scores especially high for Toxin Reduction/Remediation.

As part of its sustainability goals, the company aims to be net zero by 2030.

Eco-friendly materials

I’m particularly interested in the materials it uses in its products. Simba uses BCI cotton for all its bedding. While this is not chemical-free like organic cotton, BCI cotton aims to use fewer pesticides and fertilisers in the growth of its crop than standard cotton. The organisation also partners with farmers to improve conditions for them and their workers.

As well as cotton, Simba use 55% Modal in its duvet cover and 20% in its Simba Renew™ filling to give it its silky smoothness and increased breathability.

Modal is a form of viscose that uses less chemicals than traditional viscose fabrics such as rayon. It is also often made from beech tree pulp. These trees are fast growing and renewable. However, it can be made from endangered forests. It would be great to get more information from Simba about where exactly it sources its Modal.

The cotton and Modal covers are hypoallergenic and so ideal for people with allergies.

Simba’s Renew™ filling has its own eco-friendly credentials with 80% made from purely recycled PET bottles. These give a fluffy inner that acts like down but is completely animal free.

Awards

As well as the bedding brand’s awards for sustainability, their duvets have won awards in their own right. These include the Which Best Buy award for duvets in April 2024 and The Independent Best Buy 2025.

Their reviews are worth mentioning too in this Simba duvet review. The 3-in-1 hybrid duvet at the time of writing had no less than 985 reviews and an enviable average of 4.9. Happy customers report that it was a great investment, it’s lightweight and perfect at keeping them at just the right temperature.

Comfort, feel and touch

So, onto the important stuff, how does this all seasons duvet feel and how comfy is it?

Many of the reviewers say that it’s lightweight and it certainly is, although when both sections are clipped together it has a substantial, plush and satisfying feel.

The first night I slept under it, I noticed that it wasn’t touching my feet, there was a kind of airy space around them. I thought I was going to be cold as I was used to a much heavier feeling on top, however I wasn’t, this duvet couldn’t be more snug and cosy. I woke up feeling warm and enveloped.

The duvet has the loftiness of down without being heavy due to its Simba Renew™ filling. It’s made from recycled plastic bottles blended with 20% Modal to allow more airflow (“the Modal effect”), and it does a great job.

You can sleep under the cotton/Modal side or the Stratos® side. I’ve generally slept under the cotton/Modal side as it’s been so cold and I want to be warm. I’ll be flipping it to the Stratos® side in the summer.

The duvet also doesn’t bunch up or clump due to its square stiching keeping the filling in place. Overall, like its pillows, this duvet just oozes luxury and quality and I feel very happy to have it on my bed!

Ease of use

Label showing which way up

It may sound odd to have an “ease of use” section in a duvet review but Simba makes everything easy. How many times have you put a duvet into its cover the wrong way round? I know I have and its very frustrating. Thanks to handy labels at the end of the duvet showing you which was is up, this will be a thing of the past.

The duvets are also colour-coded: the 7 tog has grey piping and the 3.5 tog has blue. I’ve seen one review saying that the blue piping showed through their white bedding. I can understand this however my bedding is slightly off white and you can’t really see it. You can easily tell the two sides apart too, with the Stratos® side having a criss-cross pattern.

Another point for the ease of use section is that you can machine wash your duvets if your machine is big enough. It’s recommended a couple of times a year and more if you suffer from allergies. You can even tumble dry them however Simba recommends using a commercial machine for this.

Other important stuff

A few practical things make Simba’s 3-in-1 hybrid duvet even better. If you order before 2 pm, you can get next day free delivery for most of the UK, and Simba offer 0% finance over 12 months to help spread the cost.

Its duvet also comes with a 1 year guarantee and a 30 day trial period. If you don’t like the duvet within the 30 days, you can return it in its original packaging for a full refund (so keep your packaging just in case). I get the impression they don’t get many returns though!

One more thing, Simba’s duvet comes with its own QR code. Right now, this just takes you to the relevant part of their website to tell you more about the quilt and how to care for it. However, in time, maybe Simba will start to share more information about its supply chain, as Digital Product Passports do.

My Simba duvet review conclusion: to invest or not to invest

So, should you buy one? The choice is yours, but if you are looking for an all seasons duvet that will keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer, the Simba hybrid 3-in-1 is an obvious choice. For an animal-free alternative to down, luxury on your bed and space-age cooling technology, it might be worth the investment.
