Veganism has taken a huge jump forward in recent years. In the UK alone it has been estimated that 1.1m more people became vegan from 2023 to 2024 taking the total to 2.5m or 4.7% of the UK population. 8.6 million people now follow a meat free diet.
While health is a huge motivation, animal cruelty and environmental impact are obviously also on people’s minds with a new report by the Vegan Society finding that 95% of British shoppers would like to see more “vegan verified fashion” and 35% crave vegan leather options.
For more on leather’s impact, see Is Leather Bad for the Environment: The Unsustainable Truth.
Technology moves rapidly and many leather and suede alternatives are now freely available, such as plant-based leather alternatives. However, finding a cruelty-free footwear brand remains a challenge.
This guide has gathered the 33 best ethical and sustainable vegan shoe brands. Read on to find options to fit different budgets and styles for men, women, and children.
